ABSTRACT
The most prominent danger to humankind in the present scenario is the COVID-19 pandemic which has not only increased the number of cases of Coronavirus but also has increased the domestic violence cases which have resulted in a major threat to women. The present paper aimed at observing the rise of the number of cases of domestic violence which are observed during the COVID-19 pandemic period and emphasis on the previous year’s domestic violence cases is also analysed in this paper. Statistical data of domestic violence cases, before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, has also been supplemented and analyzed in this paper which demonstrates the comparison of the Domestic Violence cases as earlier and afterwards the COVID-19 pandemic. Statistical data exhibits that Domestic Violence cases have worsened at an alarming rate throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Major sources like unemployment during the lockdown and other connected source have led to the rise in the number of domestic violence cases. At a global level, domestic violence is also considered as a shadow pandemic because the number of domestic violence case has been rising globally. This paper also talks about the steps taken by various organisations to prevent domestic abuse on women. The remedies which of women can see under the protection of law by approaching courts are also discussed in this paper. By concluding this paper, it has been observed that the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a rise in the number of domestic violence cases and has accordingly given possible answers to the perpetrators of domestic violence resulting in a threat to women.
